Phu Tho – A boy born in 2011 and his sister born in 2013 in Thach Khoan commune, Thanh Son district were discovered dead in a water hole at a construction site about 100m from the house.

On the evening of June 30, in a quick exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Van Manh Thang – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thach Khoan commune (Phu Tho province) confirmed the above information.

According to initial information, the two unfortunate victims are N.D.P.H (born in 2011) and his younger brother, N.T.H.N (born in 2013), residing in Thach Khoan commune, Thanh Son district. On the evening of June 29, when the family did not see two children come home, they went with the neighbors to look for them.

At about 10:00 p.m of the same day, the family discovered that two children had died in a waterhole at the construction site, about 100 meters from the house.

Currently, the two children have been buried by their families according to local customs. The authorities are investigating and clarifying the case.

Chairman of Thach Khoan Commune People’s Committee Van Manh Thang shared that the water hole where the two children died is at the construction site of the Thanh Thuy – Thanh Son Road project for the period 2021 – 2025 under construction.

According to the reporter’s research, the Thanh Thuy – Thanh Son Road project for the period 2021 – 2025 is invested by Thanh Son District People’s Committee, with a total project investment of 250 billion VND.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time a sad incident like this has happened at construction sites of public investment projects in Phu Tho province. Less than a month earlier, a similar incident occurred at a water hole at a construction site of a project in Viet Tri city, killing a student.

On June 5, 2024, Lao Dong News had an article “Phu Tho student died at the water hole at the construction site of a project worth more than 440 billion VND”, information about the incident at the water hole at the construction site of the Road connecting the road Hung Vuong went through Nguyen Tat Thanh and Phu Dong streets to Au Co street and there was a drowning incident.

As a result, N.V.H (born in 2011), residing in area 7, Van Phu ward – a student at Van Co Secondary School, Viet Tri city, died.

According to records, the location of the hole where the incident occurred is about 2.5m deep, located in the construction site of the above project. The deep hole was formed from the excavation and embankment work of the roadbed (the section that had not yet been filled with sand, backfill soil, water remaining after the organic soil layer in the field has been scooped and dumped).

At the time of recording, around the water hole area, although it was a construction site, the project route had an intersection with a residential road but there were no warning signs, fences or safety measures.

The next day, the construction unit hastily installed signs and barriers at the construction site.

Regarding the project of Road connecting Hung Vuong street through Nguyen Tat Thanh and Phu Dong streets to Au Co street, with a total investment of more than 445 billion VND, winning the construction contract worth more than 266 billion VND is Joint venture of 3 contractors: Hoang Nguyen Construction Investment One Member Company Limited (main joint venture), Toan Thinh Joint Stock Company (sub joint venture) Truong Thinh Construction and Trading Company Limited (sub joint venture).
