With an area of ​​more than 412,000 square meters, after grand opening, passenger terminal T2 – Noi Bai airport will increase its operating capacity from 10 million to 15 million passengers/year.

On the afternoon of May 19, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the bidding package “Construction and supply and installation of equipment for the expansion of passenger terminal T2 – National Airport Noi Bai International Airport”.

This is the main and most important package of the T2 Passenger House expansion project – Noi Bai International Airport.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that developing modern synchronous infrastructure is one of the areas of special interest to the Party and State.

In recent times, we have mobilized a large amount of resources from budget capital and socialized capital to invest in the field of transport infrastructure, including aviation infrastructure.

In addition to major projects such as Long Thanh airport and T3 terminal (Tan Son Nhat airport) being implemented, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh wants to continue expanding a number of airports such as Ca Mau airport – the southernmost place. of the country; Thanh Son airport (Ninh Thuan), Rang Dong airport (Binh Thuan), thereby meeting the people’s travel needs, developing tourism and attracting investment.

According to the Prime Minister, by 2023, Noi Bai International Airport will achieve a passenger throughput of up to 30 million, ranking second in the country; largest freight transport output in the country. After a period of operation, many items at the port, including Terminal T2, were overloaded, requiring urgent upgrading and expansion.

The Prime Minister praised ACV for its changes in thinking and effective implementation of investment projects, especially in the past 2 years, including completing the preparation for expansion investment. Noi Bai T2 station in a very short time.

The project is implemented in conditions of both exploitation and construction, so the Prime Minister requires ensuring safety and quality.

In addition, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport, the State Capital Management Committee, and ACV to direct contractors to mobilize enough machinery and equipment to implement the project. The Prime Minister emphasized that it is strictly forbidden for units to use raw materials that do not ensure quality. The investor is responsible for the contractor’s implementation of the project with the spirit of “eat quickly, sleep quickly, and only discuss.” do it without hesitation”.

“Contractors who have made a commitment must do it, do it effectively, produce the right quality, the right process, on schedule, no negative waste, anti-bidding, anti-buying, and anti-bid running. It must be completed no later than December 31, 2025,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated.

The project “Expanding passenger terminal T2 – Noi Bai International Airport” has an area of ​​about 412,203 square meters (including the existing area and the extension) with the goal of increasing operating capacity from 10 million to 15 million passengers/year.

The project consists of 2 parts:

Part 1: Construction of station expansion and auxiliary works including expansion of the West wing, East wing and central area. Construction from structure to architectural completion, mechanical and electrical work and installation of works, adding a telescopic bridge system.

Part 2: Renovation and conversion of functions inside the existing terminal from floors 1 to 4 to improve the operational capacity of the aviation chain.

Total project investment is 4,996 billion VND. In which the main construction and installation package is worth VND 4,600 billion, implemented entirely with capital from Vietnam Airports Corporation.

The project was built to expand an additional 61,100m2 of floor space and renovate and convert 18,730m2 of floor space, bringing the total floor area of ​​the passenger terminal to 200,100m2.

Expanding 2 check-in islands to 6 check-in islands. Expanding 2 baggage return conveyors to 8 conveyors. Additional early check-in and transit baggage storage system.

Expanding 24 traditional check-in counters to a total of 120 counters. Expanding 24 automatic check-in kiosks and from 24 check-in kiosks to 34 check-in kiosks. Expanding from 15 telescopic bridges including 11 code C and 4 Code E to 29 telescopic bridges and auxiliary works.

Adding traditional scanners and SSL smart scanners, pre-calculating solutions to supplement necessary equipment and technology for direct flights to the US; Adding systems of FIDS, MIS, CUTE, ASS, SCN… synchronously according to the expanded area; Expanding the wastewater treatment station to increase treatment capacity from 2,600m3 to 3,900m3/day and night.

According to the contract, the bid package to complete the entire work is 660 days (until February 2026), however, ACV commits to exceeding the schedule before December 31, 2025 to be eligible to register the inauguration project and put it into open operation. Noi Bai International Airport is currently one of the three largest international aviation gateways, the gateway to the Capital, where many international delegations and heads of state are welcomed, and is an important trade hub of the country, playing a key role. plays a particularly important role in the nationwide airport network system, belonging to important projects related to national security.

International passenger terminal T2 – Noi Bai International Airport consists of 4 floors with a floor area of ​​about 139,000 m², with a total investment of nearly 18,000 billion VND (ODA loan source).

In 2018, the station was at full capacity and began to be overloaded when the number of passengers throughput in 2019 reached 11.4 million, exceeding the design capacity of Terminal T2 according to the initial calculation of 10 million passengers in 2020.
